Hello,
My name is Kattie Brigden, I am a wife and a mother of 2 neurodivergent boys. You can find us at the rink or the pool depending on the time of year. Morning coffee, watching the sunrise over a body of water while listening to the sounds of nature - that is my favorite way to unwind and recharge.
My Journey:
It has always been a joy of mine to work with children. As a teenager, I volunteered to teach figure skating lessons to young skaters. My first job was working in a summer day care program and hosting birthday parties. I love being around kids. After I graduated high school, I ended working in radio broadcasting and then in marketing and promotions. When I decided to have a family, I realized I needed a change. My first job in schools was as a part time EA. Once my children grew became a bit more self sufficient, I took an uncertified teaching position that was both challenging and fulfilling. Here I am, trying to become a legitimate teacher through the University of Calgary Bachelor of Education program.

My Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that the foundation of all education begins with creating an environment where students are excited to come to school. It is important to me that my classroom be a place where students feel safe, valued, and supported.

My goal is to provide experiential opportunities where students can fully immerse themselves in learning. They will play, explore and allow their natural wonder and curiosity to lead them.

I am committed to maintaining high expectations for all students while being flexible and responsive in my approach. I recognize that each learner is unique, and I adapt my teaching to meet diverse needs and learning styles. This flexibility ensures that students are supported and challenged appropriately as they grow academically and personally.

Ultimately my goal as a teacher is to create the circumstances in which children feel empowered and can thrive.
